Hello, my name is Billy and I’m a believer. There are plenty of believers out there, surely, and the differences between us vary as much as one lifestyle to the next. The base of my beliefs is that I am and will be happy in my life. I will make choices that will lead to greater life happiness and I believe that my choices control the life path (read: destiny) I experience. The things that allow me happiness are (not listed in order of importance or happiness-value, but as they come to mind, and I assure you this list is missing parts): Spending time with my Family, Golfing, Thinking, Writing, Performing Improvisation, Being Creative, Capitolizing Letters, Helping People be Better, Laughing. Guess what people? I Will Play Golf on the PGA Tour. I’m going to do other stuff too, like earn a million dollars in a year, get some writing published, learn engineering, you know, other stuff.
I believe I will play golf on the PGA Tour and that’s what I’ll be posting about in this blog. Other content will come up, but mainly it’ll follow my life path on my journey to hold a PGA Tour Player’s card with my name on it – issued to me… on purpose. I’m not putting a timeline on this belief, but we can be certain that I’m not getting physically younger so we’re probably looking at a realization of this goal within a decade. Let’s have some full disclosure though, so you know what you’re getting into (or out of!) by following my improbable story.
Facts about me that could be seen as fuel for skeptics (i.e. people that read this blog, at least at first):
I am 31. I am a small person, 5’9” 125 pounds. I golf once every two weeks and don’t have time to practice. I don’t have the budget to golf once a week or more. My best score for an 18-hole round is 88, followed by 91, then tons of scores in the mid 90’s. I have had back pain since a car accident in 2003 but have been receiving some great Cranial/Sacral massage that has eased my pain and made me more flexible – but still I avoid a full swing for fear of re-injury. I currently play from the whites. I’ve had a half-hour lesson (that I still owe on – sorry Fred! Check is in the mail! Not really, but it will be.)
Facts about me that are sure to quiet any skeptics gained from the last paragraph:
I love golf. I excel at games (parlor games, throwing things, catching things, games that require good hand eye coordination). I am strong willed. I’m a believer. It’s said that golf is 90% mental.
What’s the plan? Through all the terrible rounds of golf I’ve played I always thought I should have been scoring better, but the truth is… golf is difficult. Recently I have had a couple of mental breakthroughs with my golf game and they’ve come from my process of learning by doing and, in turn, they’ve helped the effectiveness of my swing, which has always been naturally smooth. Once I broke the 100 barrier it took me several (more than 5!) years to jump into the 80’s, but I predict I’ll start to score in the 70’s in a much shorter time than it took me to make that first big leap. My round of 88 came last week at a local course called Shuksan and I shot 40 on the front nine, with 5 pars and 4 bogies, so there is hope!
Part of the plan is to make some millions, to free up time so I can play and practice as much as I want. Part of the plan is to get into practicing Yoga (more on that later!).
I’ll be updating as I see fit and will not follow anyone else’s schedule! Follow me if you doubt me, so that you may watch me fail and feel justified in your skepticism or follow me if you believe in me and watch me succeed and be a part of the story! Or don’t follow me, and enjoy your day.
